Hardcore games won’t matter?
Pocketgamer scored an exclusive interview with Trip Hawkings where the former EA exec believes Apple is barking up the wrong tree with its plans to include a $19.99 premium games category.
“I don’t have a problem with the idea of having hardcore games on iPhone, or even having a category called Console or Hardcore,”
“But it’s not going to matter. The reason: at least 95 per cent of iPhone users are not hardcore gamers, and they don’t care about those brands. They’re not looking to buy an expensive game on the iPhone and spend 40 hours playing it.”
Hawkins also thinks iPhone IS a threat to the Nintendo DS’ dominance of handheld gaming.
“I find myself smirking wondering what’s going on in the boardroom at Nintendo when they think about what to do about the iPhone,” he says.

Hmmm, games for the my iPod at $20 is really a lot. I usually game on my 360 anyways, and I’d actually just rather have $10 apps at most on my Touch. Actually, I still haven’t bought a game over $5 yet.
I used to want a Nintendo DS. Used to, but then my hubby bought me an iPod Touch and my world of wants changed. Why have something big and bulky when I can carry my game machine with me in my tiny purse? And it does so much more than just games. No contest to me. My iPod Touch wins hands down. I have never been tempted by Nintendo since.
