Mass Effect Galaxy Confirmed
The critically acclaimed XBox 360 RPG makes a transition over to the iPhone.
Although news and screenshots have been floating on the web previously, Electronic Arts (EA) finally decided to talk about their work on their development on the iPhone version of Mass Effect. To be called “Mass Effect Galaxy.”
This game will be a prequel of sorts for the upcoming Mass Effect 2, due in early 2010 for 360 and Windows. Serving as a bridge between Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, the plot concerns itself with two characters from Mass Effect 2. One of these characters is Jacob Taylor, a Biotic-power soldier (a super soldier) whose mission is to prevent an attack on the Citadel, which appears to be the center for civilization in the galaxy.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Mass Effect is an action role-playing game (RPG) developed by Bioware for the 360. It was released in March 2008. It received wide critical acclaim for its plot, dialogue, and RPG elements. This is Bioware’s first attempt onto the iPhone, so it will be interesting to see how they adapt the console game for the portable platform.
Gameplay in Mass Effect Galaxy will be different from the 360 version. Differing from the third-person perspective of the console version, Mass Effect Galaxy utilizes a top-down perspective. The art has also changed. Instead of going 3D, the iPhone version will consist of 2D graphics, in the hope of creating an animated comic book style.
Bioware has also spent a lot of time with this game focusing on quick, tight dialogue, so no more of the bountiful conversations present in the console game. No word yet on the RPG elements, or if there will even be any, but from the looks of the screenshots, there appears to be a lot of shooting action in this game.
No release date or estimation has been announced yet, so keep an eye out for this intriguing title.

Looks interesting. Not sure if I’d buy it, but might be willing to try it out on the cheap.

Looks more like a tactical based game to me. However I have all the faith that Bioware will not disappoint!
