Premium App Store Rumors Resurface

We heard about this rumor back in December and than again in January, once again the rumors are resurfacing and there is some speculation that next week Apple App Store might be getting a new addition.

According to WiredThe iPhone is set to get a face lift. Apple will show off a new version of the iPhone operating system, iPhone 3.0, on March 17, along with a new version of the phone’s software development kit.

It’s heavily rumored that along with the new Showcasing of the 3.0 Firmware that Apple may introduce the long rumored Premium App Store or at least detail it.

Wired speculates “This “velvet rope” section of Apple’s store could feature software programs that cost $20 or more, making it friendlier to publishers whose products are too complicated to be created in one developer’s spare time. That change would make the App Store more friendly to game publishers, as well as enterprise software companies such as SAP that would otherwise prefer to focus on the more business-user targeted BlackBerry phones.

This $20 section is definitely for business users like professionals. Not for students definitely.

Personally I think the $20 app store is ridiculous, when extremely high quality apps are already available for $5 or so. I don’t use my iDevice as a major gaming platform, $20 is just way to much. As of date the most expensive item I’ve bought is The Oregon Trail at $6. I’ll save the rest of my money for my 360.

just mod your 360 and play for free but thats true the most expensive game i bought was touchgrind

And get my 360 bricked and unable to log on to Live ever again? No thanks. Anyways, it seems as if the expensive apps usually die off quick, even if they start off popular. Look at Zen Bound, it reached top 20, and now it’s slipping fast.
