iBlast Moki
iBlast Moki is categorized as an original physics bases puzzle game. Toss that notion out and lets just call it what it is. iBlast Moki is the definitive iDevice puzzle game, and one of the most addictive and creative titles around. In fact I’m willing to go as far as proclaiming it a game changer.
Gameplay:
iBlast Moki consists of over 70 levels of physics based puzzle actions, where you attempt to get your Moki from its starting point to the exit portal in the fastest time possible while collecting all the flowers along the way. In order to accomplish this you will need to use the help of a wide range of objects such as bombs, ropes, shields, and more that are collected throughout your journey. A good bit of trial and error and brainpower will also be needed to complete each level with a Golden Ribbon.
As you progress throughout the levels, the obstacles will require more effort to solve, this is where the game really shines because they have included timers and an auto rewind feature that will let adjust the explosion times, or instantly rewind to the start of the level without having to wait for the level to play out should you have placed something in the wrong location.
What makes this game unique is that this game screams originality and “Touch Gaming” all over it. Sure this could be retrofitted to work on the DS, PSP or other handheld devices (and im sure it will) but the fact of the matter is those version would never live up to the quality and precision control that this game offers on the iDevice. This is one of those games that helps define the iPhone and iTouch as a real gaming devices.
Another first for the device is a game with unlimited playability due to the fact that it includes a built in editor and the ability to play unlimited rate user created levels. In fact if anyone is familiar with a little that goes by the name of “Little Big Planet” you will understand exactly what I mean when I say it has a very active and similar “community” feeling as LBP does. That’s a good thing for those who don’t understand.
The inclusion of the Achievements and +Plus network add to the challenge and overall fun of the game. I find myself repeating levels over and over trying to improve my speed and score in attempts to rank higher online.
The game also included 7 boss battles scattered throughout six vibrant and different themed worlds. And while it may seem that 70 levels of gameplay will go quick I can honestly tell you that there is plenty of gameplay and challenges to keep you playing for quite some time. Add to it that the developer is already working on new worlds and additional objects and physics for updates and I really don’t know what there is to complain about.
Controls
While the game looks and feels very Roland-ish the gameplay couldn’t be any different. There are no accelerometer based controls in iBlast Moki. You see you control the game entirely with the placement and timing of objects. As you begin the game you will start with one bomb. You position the bomb and adjust the severity of the blast in order to move the Moki’s in a certain direction prior to the start of each level. Once you “run” the level your design plays out.
The game’s entire first level is a tutorial which walks you through the controls, and than it’s up to you to figure out the rest. On some levels you will to use multiple bombs, balloons, ropes, gears and other objects together to create a viable pathway to move the Moki’s paste an obstacle or clear an pathway towards an exit portal.
As you progress more and more objects are introduced as well as the levels design complexity. As you unlock these newer levels you will also unlock objects that can be used in the Built in editor.
This is one of the best aspects of the game. If you can imagine it you can basically create it. The only negative thing I have to say is that the level editor is very confusing for the new user. I hope they add some kind of tutorial and detailed instructions in the future because as it stands now there is a ton of trial and error associated with it.
What We Liked:
+ Plus+
+ Cartoon quality Graphics
+ Cuteness
+ Instant Rewind
+ Achievements
+ Music
+ Built In Level Editor
+ Multiple ways to complete levels
+ Unlimited Replay with downloadable levels
+ Creative Gameplay
What We Didn’t Like:
- Small levels
- Would like to see more objects for editor
- Editor level needs some instructions
Final Verdict:
if you couldn’t tell by the tone of this review. I will just come out and say it. iBlast Moki isn’t only the best puzzle game physics or not on the iPhone currently its also one for the best games overall. Everything blends into a perfect level of addiction, with an active developer creating new original content and the additional and improvement of an user community creating new and impressive levels it’s a no-brainer that this is a must own title. I have no doubt once you get a taste of Moki you will never want to go back..

Please post this info in the forums.
thanks for the review glenn, i just napped this baby just now…i was thinking id go ahead and grab it while its on sale for a dollar! can’t wait!
Purchased this one on Monday night. A very nice game. While the review gives the small size of the levels as one of the ‘we didn’t like’s’ I do like that about the game. I can play in short bursts and yet still feel as though I am achieving something. This is a big positive when you are time poor like me. I nearly always have the odd minute here and there but not 10 minutes or more at a stretch. Bonus is it looks great, is polished, fun and can be challenging to play.
Just bought this game over the weekend… love the simplicity of the graphics and the gameplay. But at the sametime, the gameplay promises that there’ll be plenty of head-scratching along the way to suss out the end! In a way, it reminds me of iPhysics with bombs… what a great combo!
I’m certainly happy this one’s out. I still have to finish others like Gizmos and Gadgets and Enigmo before I buy it =)
This game is EPIC!!
yep this looked amazing from the beginning and this review only comfirms that. Its original, i love the art style, and it has a tone of replay value. Great looking game. Ill probably pick it up very soon.
Rube Goldberg would be proud. This looks like another “must” game. I really like the idea of multiple solutions.
The editor, combined with the ease of sharing creations, adds originality and replay value. I really like what I see here.
This is truly a great iDevice game. From the fun graphics to the awesome controls and solid gameplay, no device should be without it. I beta tested a few months ago and it was spectacular then. Recommended to anyone! The included editor is great and really increases the replay value. It’s an absolute steal for $1.99. This could have been an instant buy at $5. Get it!
Bought this without hesitation last night, and have been enjoying every freaking minute of this game.
It just screams awesomeness the whole way through!
If you can watch that video and resist buying this game, well there’s probably not too much hope for you!
BUY IT!
