iTouchdown Review

iTouchdown, is a great blast from the past for American football fans.  It is unique in the way that it is very similar to the retro LED versions of the game some of you might have played growing up. If so this application should bring back golden memories of happier times you spent as a youth.

td1Id first like to explain the rules for iTouchdown the rules, it’s simply to score as many touchdowns as possible without getting the ball turned over (tackled).

iTouchdown, offers this game play in a unique way, you are the ‘Blue Helmet’ and you must beat all of the ‘Red Helmets’ basically it’s you versus a full opposition Team.

First, you must collect the ball from the field of play, this is done by navigating to the ball and stepping onto the square it is, in doing so you pick up the ball. You must then get the ball past the remaining Red Defenders and onto the Touchline – scoring 7points!

If you should get tackled, on your way to picking up the ball or scoring, you lose 3points from your accumulated total. Every time you do get tackled you lose the 3points and the game is reset, you start back on your touchline and the Red Defenders spawn in a random position.

td2This is a great aspect of the game, there is no simple way to best the game you must devise a strategy each round. The Red Defenders move in no set pattern so there is no way to predict the next movement.

The graphics, simple as they are, are highly polished. With the authentic LED football style still kept. There is also a HUD showing how long is left of the quarter (this is very realistic as in the real game).

The control system is a simple touch to move, with 4different buttons, left, right, up and down. Your player moves slightly quicker than the defenders so you have the advantage here!

Another thing iTouchdown offers that other “LED” versions don’t is a full online scoreboard. Which really helps the replay value of the game. They also have an Online Challenge and Leaderboard for All Time and Last Month scores as well.

You can also link your score to Twitter so you can flood your friends with your scores should you choose to.

However one negative unfortunately is that as of yet there is no music or  sound. This is pretty subpar for even a new developer. Hopefully  some will be added in future updates as anything would add to the game.

Overall, a simple LED American football game, great pick-up-and-play quality’s and good challenge.

The Good

New strategy every round

Simple clean graphics

Nice retro re-make

The Bad

    I agree – it’s a great game.

This article is not very well written though. Tons of grammar and punctuation errors :(

This is a very fun game. I actually like it more than the full-blown NFL games out there. Simple but addicting.
