Alphabetic Review
No Monkey the makers of Alphabetic have succeeded in creating an simple, addictive and unique puzzle game that fans of the genre and the “Where Is Waldo” books should not miss.
Alphabetic’s gameplay couldn’t be any more simple. Find all the 26 letters of the alphabet before the timer runs out, and while that sounds ultra simplistic don’t be fooled into thinking the game itself is.
There are two modes of gameplay in Alphabetic Quick Game and Challenges.
Initially quick game is the only choice you have, and serves as a tutorial for new players. The gameplay begins with the Letter A and revolves around you finding and pressing the next letter in the alphabet before the timer reaches zero.
Depending on how fast you find and press the next alphabet you will obtain additional time, and score bonuses for quick finds, blitz finds, and chained letters along the way, and while quick game is a great way to spend a few minutes trying to up your score while waiting at the doctors office the challenges mode is where you will spend the most of your time.
Challenge mode offers 9 additional modes of play like reverse mode which starts with Z and working your way backwards to A, Endless mode which gets faster and faster and keeps repeating A to Z testing your skills to see how long can you last, and numeric which uses numbers instead of letters. There are 6 additional levels that notch up the difficulty as well.
The Trophies system will keep you coming back as there are 26 trophies to be unlocked in quick and challenge modes, as well as leader boards for High Scores.
Graphically Alphabetic is very easy on the eyes with neon colors, and dozens of smooth animations finding the next alphabet never looked so good.
Audio wise the game is somewhat lacking. While there is sounds for finding the correct letters and warning you while the time is about to run out, the game somewhat seems very quiet. I can help but think how much better my experiences would have been if It had some kind of faint music in the background to accompany me on my journey.
Positives:
- Colorful and unique puzzle Game
- Trophies add to replay and addiction levels
- excellent presentation and flow
Negatives:
- No music in background
- No penalty for pressing the wrong letter (should deduct 5 seconds of time or something)
That said there is very little wrong with Alphabetic, and anyone remotely interested or looking for a colorful and unique puzzle game should check it out. The entire presentation is seamless and presented in a professional manner.
