Battle Blasters: A futuristic battler teetering on the verge of success
In the year 3042 mankind has grown tired of traditional sporting events so the people invented the Battle Blasters tournament which pits the worlds best fighters against each other where only one can be called the victor.
Battle Blasters contains three different gameplay modes. Campaign, Quickplay, and Split Screen Mutliplayer as well as four (one Unlockable) difficulty levels to choose from. The game also incorporates Facebook connectivity.
Battle Blasters campaign mode plays out similar to games like mortal combat, or soul caliber where you pick from one of 6 initial combatant of which only two are unlocked at the start and battle your way through all the competitors vying for the title of worlds greatest fighter. There really is no background or story to the campaign except for a few short sentences spoken before each battle.
Graphically the games is slightly above average. There is a nice mix of animations and blaster colors giving the game a cartoon battle look. The battles themselves take place in a corridor view meaning top to bottom view with a slight angle looking inward. The game does a good job of walking you through the mechanics of movement and battle which uses all finger movements.
The matches play out over 3 rounds where the winner of two rounds is declared the winner and advances. You need to attack as well as defend yourself while maintaining a charge in your weapons gauge. Each character has different abilities and weapons that must be utilized if you intend on winning all the matches.
The game also does a good job of making you think on the move. You wil be performing offensive, defensive and movement commands almost simultaneously as you progress. I would suggest veteran iDevice gamers begin with a medium level of difficulty as I was able to blow through it in under 30 minutes.
I would assume most players would quite after that and move on to another game which would be a mistake.
As you ramp up the difficulty levels the game really starts to shine as your challenged with balancing both offensive and defensive capabilities with split second timing.
Once you complete the game on each difficulty level you will unlock an additional character which can be used for single or the split screen multiplayer gameplay modes.
My problem with the game is that it feels a bit lacking in content. With only 6 characters to fight your way through the game even on the harder levels can be completed in just a few hours. And the lack of any real online multiplayer components makes the replay value drop as well.
The game’s premise, graphics and controls are done very well and I have nothing to complain about in those departments however just as I was really getting into the game it was over. Some additional content would have made a better case for the game especially at it’s asking price of $2.99
If your a fan of strategic real time battlers and are willing to fork over $2.99 for a few hours of fun I would highly recommend you take a look at Battle Brawlers. However if your on the fence I would mark this app down on your to get list while waiting for an upgrade and a slight price drop to justify the purchase. The developers have taken a different path from most fighters and with a few minor tweaks and additional content I honestly feel the game could have some real success.

this is my absolute favorite game to arrive on the appstore. i had never played anything like this before so i was new to the genre. i disagree about having the price reduced. i think it is absolutely worth the three dollars. it gets really tough at the end and you dont really breeze through the game as mentioned. easily worth 5 dollars.
Certainly does look fun and have a degree of strategy involved with the selection of weapons (Noticed that most have two weapons to fire) Sigh, yet another to add to my backlog!!!!
This one looks like a lot of fun. The battles are cool and the graphics are really nice, too. I hope they get online wi-fi working. That will add a ton of value to the game.
