Clockwize

Great concept for a series of games… give someone a challenge in both terms of what they have to do, and in the time they have to do it in. In the case of Perplext’s “:60 Second Series” that time limit is one minute. Boy, talk about a quick pick up and play game.

picture-95So far there are four games in the series. I’ve already reviewed the first three (“EnterState”, “Kount”, and “See Quence”) and have found all of them to be very good when it comes to their presentation and game play. All of the games did the right thing and kept things simple, challenging and fun.

One of the most original things that the series has kept going is the “Circle of Friends” scoreboard that allows you to pick and choose who is on the scoreboard you keep. This is done by the friends you add uploading their scores and then you see them when you sync up. A very nice way to pull in the focus of a global scoreboard and a feature that I’m hoping more games start to use.

And now I’ve come to the fourth game in the series, “Clockwize”, and I’m pleased to say that all of the good things found in the first three games is included with this one. I’m eve more pleased to say that I think with this edition, the series has found it’s best game.

The game gives you 20 clocks, each with a single hand moving around its face. The hands have all started in a random place so finding the clocks with the same hand positions is pretty tough. Which is wild because your job is to get all 20 clocks stopped on the same time. And speaking of time you have to do it all in 60 seconds.

You stop a clock simply by touching its face. If you don’t like the time you can touch it again and it will start back up. I found this game a really good challenge for your hand eye coordination. You’ve got to keep your eyes on all the clocks so that you can pin point the ones that are closest to the time you want.

picture-103If you can get them all stopped on the same time in under 60 seconds you win and you can get on the scoreboard I talked about above. It took me a few games to really get a nice strategy going and start to win with regularity. I then kept playing in order to try and get my time down lower and lower.

This very simple game now had my full attention and I realized that while watching the clocks I had stopped paying attention to the real one next to me and almost two hours had gone by. Even if I never play it again (though I will) that one time span easily would have been worth the low price on the game.

As I said earlier, I’ve liked all the games so far in the series, but with Clockwize I think Perplext has finally found the game that it can hang it’s hat on. While each of the previous games has used its 60 seconds to give you a little adrenaline rush, Clockwize adds a nice touch of strategy into the mix to really heighten the game play.

Clock Watchers of the world unite! Your years of gazing at the clock will finally pay off and now you’ve got the game to prove it!

Looks like a unique game. Although I like various in depth games, I’m always looking for fun, quick games.

looks really hard, yet fun. While 60 seconds is nice for a game, i bet it can get really frantic.

On the “see quence” review you said there can’t be any strategy in a 60 second game… This looks extremely challenging!

Yep… you got me… I wrote all of these reviews one at a time, in order, after playing the games. This one actually did have a bit of strategy to it. I liked this one a lot.
