Crazy Monkey Spin Review
Crazy Monkey Spin puts you in control of a monkey on a mission to rescue his fellow animals. The full version of the game features three game modes. The two secondary modes are very similar to the main mode. They involve gathering items under time limits and add little depth. Therefore, I will focus on the main quest in this review. Does this application live up to its title of crazy fun?
The main quest features cut scenes that open up the story line. Something mysterious is locking up all the other animals on an island. It is your job to free them. There is a map with five different areas to explore. As you progress through the levels you will open up new environments. You will also open up new techniques that take the form of power hats.
The game primarily utilizes swiping to maneuver your monkey’s jumps. The controls are really my only complaint. The game requires you to swipe on top of the monkey. This covers up the game screen. The developers should update the game to allow you to make directional swipes – anywhere on the screen. I also found my swipes were not always registered.
In the early levels this is not an issue but when the deadly spikes start appearing it becomes upsetting. The game only allows two jumps before you hit another peg. It can be frustrating to have to start a long climb all over because you missed a jump and fell all the way to the bottom.
The graphics in this game are clean and crisp. The levels and characters are very cartoon like and appear as if they are targeted towards children. The game is rated for 4+ and the dialogue and storyline seems to appeal to the 15 and younger crowd.
The backgrounds change with each environment mixing things up. The music is appropriate and once again seems to be well suited for a younger audience. The game does feature in game Ipod support which is a really nice touch.
This game will be very fun for children. Hardcore gamers will likely be turned off. The application does feature achievements and time challenges that can keep you interested. The game is a good value at its price point since it packs in a large number of levels. If you are curious I recommend trying the demo first – if you like it the full game offers lots more.
Positives: Built in Ipod support, Large number of levels, Good game for young players
Negatives: Wonky Controls, Repetitive Game play, May not appeal to older players

I have this game and sway on my ipod touch.. I think that they’re alike but i love this app because the controls are way easier.. lol but the childish theme really isnt for me
I tried this one for a little while but I ended up uninterested as well as completely frustrated with the ridiculous control scheme. Then again, I’m one of those “older” players…so there ya go, eh? : )
Is it just me, or is anyone else reminded of Sway? The way you swing around and collect bananas with an end goal of freeing other animal friends looks a bit familiar.
Yeah, the cartoony/childish theme just doesn’t do it for me in this case
And it sounds like you are somewhat fighting the controls in this game which is never a good thing….If was just a few years younger maybe this game would be more up my alley.
I played the lite version a while ago and really enjoyed it!! I might buy the full version. Its very fun and its one of those games thats simple yet challenging lol Great concept Dchoc does it again!
maybe something is wrong with me but I kinda like the game! Controls are very easy to control though it does seem like there is like a delay at times.
it actually seems pretty fun from the review and video but i can easily see how it lacks appeal for the older crowd. The controls do seem like they take away from the game, which is a very big negative in my opinion. But it also sounds like with a few fixes, this could be a great kids game.
