Framerz Review

At the risk of putting more proof of my being old out into the public, I remember when it was cool to pull out a Polaroid camera at parties so that we could have some instant memories of the parties. Then we’d take markers and draw funny things on the white space at the bottom and even put a few mustaches on the people.

Digital cameras pushed the Polaroid out of our hands, but it just wasn’t the same. I still liked it when I could do funny things with the photos. Mobile phones made things even a little more instant, and allowed us to send the pictures to others quickly, but still… missing something.

picture-210Thanks to Framerz from MadMobile we have a chance to mix the old and the new. Now we can take a picture at a party, put something funny with it and share it with others. And best of all, we don’t have to shake the iPhone to get the picture to come in quicker. Okay, don’t post that you didn’t have to shake the Polaroid to get the picture… I know that, I was just going for a bit of humor.

The idea behind Framerz is very simple. The app gives you a good supply of, well, frames, that you can put onto any existing photo in your gallery or on any new photo taken on your phone. Framerz allows you to size the picture and move it around a bit so that you can get it right where you’d like to see it. This is good because some of the frames allow you to put your (or someone else’s) head onto various objects.

The controls of the app are not perfect here. The pinching technique for sizing the photos could use a little work, but it does its job well enough. I’d just like to see a little tweaking in updates.

Most of the frames are the type that have a word or two stylishly written under the photo. Words like “Sexy”, “Drunk”, “Old School” (you get the idea) give you the chance to add a bit of personality to your photos. Graphically the frames are nice and do everything a user would expect. I’m hoping that more frames are coming up because there are some real good opportunities with this type of app. Some better (perhaps more family oriented) frames would be good and there really is a need for good seasonal themed apps as well.

picture-57Oh, and while I’m in the asking mode… It would be great to be able to customize your frames a little more. Let me put up some other words or personalize things with names, dates or phone numbers. This would really add some great value to the app.

Framerz does a great job of allowing you to send your pictures instantly after you get them ready. You can do this either through email or MMS which is a great way to keep the memories flowing.

You can also post your pictures to a global gallery. This gives others a chance to rate your photos and for you to rate others. I liked this part a lot, though I will give a little warning that some of the pictures on the gallery are not exactly the type of thing you’d like to have up at work, or in front of the family. Of course, but saying that I might have just sold a few more copies of the app.

Another thing that I’d like is the option to remove the “mobileframerz.com” watermark from the pictures. I can see this on a free app, but when you’ve paid for it seems a little unwanted. I can see it as something for the global gallery, but if I’m wanting to save a photo of someone I don’t want the mark.

This game has been featured on TV shows like American Idol and Nashville Star and it’s easy to see why. The game is easy to use and allows you to have some fun with your instant memories. Framerz is a “can’t miss” at parties. You’ll have a blast passing the phone around taking pictures and framing them up… and then sending them to your friends so they’ll love you all over again.

I still miss the Polaroid days… but with Framerz, I’ve found a great way to not have to miss out on the fun.

The Good

Easy To Use
Global Gallery
Great For Parties

The Bad

Needs More Frames
Can’t Customize
Gallery Can Get A Bit Racey
