Monkey Flight

When I first saw this game on the app store I thought it was called Monkey Fight. Monkey Fight would have been much better than Monkey Flight. It isn’t that Monkey Flight is bad, but it is more focused on younger gamers, or for people who just have a few seconds or minutes waiting in line and want to play a game. Even though it is more for younger audiences, I have gotten a decent amount of enjoyment from this game.

picture-42The object of this game is to fling the monkey as far as possible in hopes of reaching the other side, while also collecting as much fruit as possible. There are things that help you along the way,  such as clouds and bouncy elephants, and things that slow you down, like the ground, rocks, and mud. Unfortunately, there are no fighting monkeys, but the grey monkeys that launch the other monkeys are laughing hysterically.

The controls are pretty simple. Tap once on the screen and move your finger up and down to dictate the direction that you want to launch, and then release when the power bar is at the desired spot. As the monkey is flying, you can make him go farther by tapping on him. If you tap on him it makes him fart, and apparently it is a big one, as it propels him through the air quite far.

This game has those old-school type of graphics where everything is the same brick-like, choppy, blurry objects. With such a simple game like this, good graphics aren’t needed, as long as you can make out what the objects are, and in this case, you can.

picture-52The sound in this game isn’t the greatest either. It plays a short tune at the beginning, and then all you here is the ding when you collect fruit and the monkey making noises and hitting the ground. These noises can get pretty annoying after a while, so fortunately there is an option to turn them off and listen to your iPod music. A simple update to the game with a song playing could fix this problem easily.

My opinion on this game is to buy it if you have kids that are pretty easily distracted for those times when you just need o rest and not be bothered. They will be pretty occupied for a while and it is easy enough that they will have a blast while playing it. It is also good for playing while in line at the store or somewhere else where you need a quick distraction.

The Good

Fun and Simple Gameplay
Kids will love it

The Bad

Audio could be better
Maybe to simplistic
