Par3 Golf II
Finding that perfect golf simulation on the iPhone can be as tricky as getting out of those pesky sand traps, and while everyone seems to be waiting for a Tiger Woods game on the iDevices there are some good alternatives available right now.
Par3 golf II happens to be one of these. This single player game offers four choices of courses consisting of all Par3 holes with the ability to play against two computer controlled opponents.
Par3 golf II happens to be one of these. This single player game offers four choices of courses consisting of all Par3 holes with the ability to play against two computer-controlled opponents.
Graphically the game is a mixed bag, While a character models balls and animations look good the background objects tend to get slightly pixelated. If I had to compare the graphics to its console counterparts I would say it looks like a PlayStation one title albeit in a portable form and that it does not distract from the game.
Upon starting the game you will have the ability to choose your character, opponent, and course selection. once the game starts you will have the option to select your club, view a movable and zoom able overhead map, and adjust the ball’s positioning on the bottom portion of the screen. The top section of the screen will give you information about the whole wind direction distance to the hole and what stroke your currently on.
Once you have lined up your shot you press the ball icon in the lower right corner which will start the swing gauge. The further the red line travels up to gauge the harder the ball will be hit. You simply press the screen when the red bar rises to where you want to swing.
Once the ball is in flight you will see an overhead map displaying the balls current flight trajectory, but prior to swinging you will need to take into account the wind speeds, slope of the greens, and take caution not over swing as you will end up hitting the ball off course or out of bounds completely.
The game does a good job of automatically selecting what club is recommended for your current distance from the hole, but your able to override this club selection at any time. Feel free to break out the 5 Wood while 3 feet from the hole if you like.
Audio wise the game is pretty quiet the only noises you’ll hear are the swinging of the club and a brief looping song once you complete the hole. I would have liked to hear some varying sound effects for birdies, hole in ones, and near misses. Maybe toss in a few chirping birds. However you can play your own music over the game.
Overall I found the game to be quite fun and while it may not have the depth of character creation or animated backgrounds as you may find in other golfing games, I would not regret recommending this to anyone looking for a good and somewhat challenging portable golf game until something better comes along.

congrats to akame the winner of the free app!!
Actually, I think GL Golf is the one to get right now, until TW. It’s in real 3D…camera follows the ball inflight, etc. The dev is also active in updating it according to user requests.
It’s more of a sim than these others I think. I play it all the time.
it gives me the impression that I am playing golf. I havent try golf for starters, wonder how i will fare in this game..hmm
man this looks like a fun game to play. man i played lux the other day and i almost missed my bus. that game is good. this game is a golf game i have been waiting for one, for a while
Those screenshots are not making me want to get this game, but then again, this is one of the few full-golf games rather than mini-putt. I can’t wait for Tiger, as others previously said.
I think im gonna wait for Tiger woods till i decide whether to get this or not
so this seems more of a realistic game than an arcadey one right?
No I would say its more arcade than simulation.
Looks pretty good. I think what they need to do is make the character models actually 3d.
they are they have depth to them just might be this crappy camera. I’m going to invest in a real nice one shortly here so we get crystal clear HD videos..
I definitely agree. The game looks amazing, however it does look “artificial”. I would definitely recommend using some different textures.
Just to clarify, I’m not saying it should have worse graphics. Just not so “fake” looking
Looks nice, however, the graphics make the course seem so artificial. I wish the developers take note and make it a bit “dirtier”.
Based on your review, I’d say it’s the best one out there right now by far.
Still waiting for Tiger Woods’ release but this looks interesting…
