Pools of Blood
First of all, what a name for a game huh? Pools of Blood is a tower defense game with a difference, you get bonus points for the largest area covered with blood – which you get from killing the orcs.
These orcs come in many shapes and sizes and try to destroy your tower!
The objective of Pools of Blood is to stop the invading orcs from destroying your castle by tapping with your finger and spilling their blood! As in many tower defense games, there are waves off enemies, progressively getting harder as you progress through the game.
The Orcs, are sometimes large – taking lots of taps to kill – but they are slower and sometimes small running very quickly but also dying fast.
You get bonus points for the area on the screen covered in blood and more points if your base doesn’t get damaged.
At first if your base is damage you will see no immediate signs, but as your tower is weakened it will sink further and further into the ground until the flag on top is reachable by the orcs- at which point you get game over.
The graphics of this game are very good, 3d orcs in different sizes and skins (how they look). You can pan around your tower by pressing and dragging to see enemies as they approach.
The controls are very simple, yet effective tap and drag to look around and tap to kill enemies.
The music is by a real band called Karnivool, a Australian indie rock group. It is very heavy and fits the game-play.
There are 3 different game modes, which represent 3 different skill levels, they can be changed in the main menu – which is presented very nicely.
The game as online features, allowing high scores to be published online and a community feature built in.
In overview, this app is a great little game and one of my favorites reviewed so far!
