Red Bull Racing Challenge: Artificial Life’s Newest Racing App Falls Flat
Grand Prix Racers are lost on me. The exhilaration of taking left turn after left turn just never appealed to me, and sadly Red Bull Challenge Racing does nothing to change my opinion. However, fans of these kind of racers might have something to be excited about in Artificial Life’s newest app.
It gets you behind the wheel of the grand prix-winning RB5 to taste the thrill, the speed, and excitement of the world’s premiere motorsport series. Join the Red Bull Racing team to take on some of the world’s greatest racing circuits; you can also challenge a friend, compete in multiplayer mode, or race against the clock in the Time Attack mode to rule the online leaderboards.
Game features include 6 real famous circuits on locations such as China, Great Britain, and Australia. You can choose from three control schemes using the iDevice’s multi-touch screen and accelerometer. Facebook and Twitter integration along with global leaderboards make the game have some replay value. A cool little feature was the in-game pit stop challenge where you test your reaction time trying to get your vehicle in tip-top shape.
Other than the unique, and refreshingly cool in-game pit stop feature, Red Bull Racing Challenge does nothing to “challenge” the other grand-prix racing apps out there. Yes, you can race your friends via Bluetooth and it has Facebook and Twitter integration, but will that really keep you coming back for more if the gameplay plays just the same as every other racer? The graphics are average, and the racing itself isn’t enough to set apart from racers in the App Store. If you’re an avid fan, I’d say check it out but it’s a whopping $2.99 so curb your enthusiasm accordingly.
