Skybound Review

Skybound for iPhone is a unique game in which you draw a line on the screen which creates clouds.sky1The clouds that you draw with your finger makes the ball bounce. The goal is to bounce your ball high… really high! Sound simple? Not really, you encounter several different items and obstacles along the way.

Depending on what you hit you may unlock power ups or power downs as I like to call them. Your ball might launch really high off the screen, turn blue giving you immunity to dangerous objects, or turning red and becoming too heavy to bounce high in the case of the bricks.  Finally you will see various faces as you creep higher.

These faces are programmers and other employees at Tumbleweed Interactive. These faces are achievements displayed after you have finally let the ball fall and your game is over or by visiting the gallery from the main screen.
The first thing that stands out when you start your game is the graphics. Skybound has a very artistic style.

You start your adventure bouncing the ball is alongside of a really cool, Gothic looking skyscraper and as you progress you will enter the clouds, upper atmosphere and eventually outer space.

sky2The game does consists of an global leader board, so you can see who is the best and works as a method of challenging yourself to play more.

The sounds in this game are excellent coming through the iPhone speakers with a great stereo sound.

Overall there is not really a story to the game, the goal is to get as high as you can and get as many points along the way. The main drawback is that the game does become repetitive. There are 25 challenges listed ranging from collecting all the credits in boss mode to reaching 5000 meters which unlocks the boss mode play.

The game has three modes, normal, easy, and boss mode to help give it some additional life.

I found this game to be really entertaining and a perfect game if you only have a few minutes of play time. I would definitely recommend this game to someone who enjoys pinball style games or just wants a quick fix of gaming. If you aren’t sure if this is a fit for you, you are in luck. The iTunes store also has a Lite Version of Skybound for you to check out first.

The Good

Nice Artistic Artwork
Boss Mode

The Bad

Repetitive gameplay

    • B master says:

      Wow, thanks!!

      Too bad the code doesn’t work… :(

      • havchr says:

Hi, please send an email to me about it. feedback@tumbleweedinteractive.com

You need an American iTunes account for the gift codes, is that why it’s not working?

Hope we can work it out! :)

        • B master says:

No, I am in America. The reason it doesn’t work is probably because A. You updated it after giving the code to Glenn or B. It’s expired. Thanks for the interest though!

          • raoupp says:

Mine worked properly. Thanks for it, havochr/glenn.
However I have a problem with the online highscores. They don’t show up even while I’m connected via 3G. There’s this error message saying “internet failed”. Is it just me or other users have this error too?

          • B master says:

Mine just shows the ” this code has already been entered” pop-up. I’m curious as to why your worked though…

Can you post your code here? Maybe we got the same one by mistake!

this game looks rly amazing, after looking into it a bit more, it actually looks like a very fun snacking game, i rly like the boss mode, that should be fun and overall this looks and plays great. (the lite version is short but gives u a taste of the terrific gameplay)

  3. B master says:

Hey Glenn, you forgot this one!

  4. coldfusion says:

repetitive gameplay sounds bad but games like papijump and zombieville and repetetive but also very fun and addicting. So it could still be great.

  5. baseballbaby86 says:

  6. schmidty says:

  15. Matthew says:

this is a cool and addictive minigame
    i like the controls
    they are easy and good
this game reminds me a bit of papijump

  16. havchr says:

    Hi!
I just wanted to say thanks for the review. :)

There is some story to the game, but it’s very well hidden. You can find these hidden story bits in the default highscores of the lite version, and in the very last entry of the unlockable gallery.

We might post the story on the http://skybound.tumbleweedinteractive.com page , where you can also find the highscore list.

  17. Raphie says:

i like the graphics, i rly enjoyed the lite game.
    interesting concept, very unique game.

  23. Chumbake says:

I tried out the lite version and it’s pretty good. This game has been on my App Sniper list for quite some time now.

  24. Big Albie says:

I tried the lite version of this and actually prefer this to Up There. The game seems pretty polished, and it’s strictly a pick up and play game.

  25. Super says:

Looks really cool sort a like brick breaker type thing :P

  26. raoupp says:

The lite version was a good taster. Now I wanna try the full one. Even it’s not comparable with Up There, my favorite pick up and play game.

  27. Charlie says:

    mini app like papi jump
