Solitaire Siege Review

Interesting. Usually when you think of a game of War being played with cards you imagine two decks of cards and flipping one at a time, seeing who has the highest card. It’s a game we’ve all played and seems to always remain a classic.

siege1It’s actually isn’t what I thought I’d be getting when I saw the name Solitaire Siege. I thought it would be another version of the game played against a computer opponent. But it turns out I was wrong… very wrong… and very happy.

Solitaire Siege by Bad Bumble is actually a variation on the popular solitaire game, Pyramid. And, as the name would imply, a military bent as been added to give the game new life, and a bit of a story.

For those not familiar with Pyramid style solitaire games here’s a little background. Cards are placed face down, in either rows or in a pyramid (go figure) formation. The bottom cards are face up so that you can see them. The rest of the cards are yours and in a pile with one card flipped over. The object of the game is to take away cards from the pyramid that are either one up, or one down, from the card in your “base”.

For instance if the card in your base is a “4” you can remove any “3” or “5” card that is showing. Once you’ve removed that card it is now the base card and you can flip over any cards in the pyramid that have now been uncovered. You can keep going until there are no more moves to be made.

Once you’ve run out of moves you can turn over one of the cards in your pile to be the new base card. The object is to clear away all of the pyramid cards before you run out of your pile.

In Solitaire Siege the cards in the pyramid represent an enemy force. Taking them from the board is like killing the soldier. The cards in your pile represent your forces. The game play is pretty simple and just adding a little bit of a twist like this would almost make the game worth picking up. But the devs went beyond this and made the theme much bigger.

siege2From time to time you will uncover different types of cards that can come into play. Cards like Hand Grenades will take out enemy walls, Snipers will allow you to pick off any card you’d like, and Spy cards will give you a look at all the cards in a row (to help you plan out your strategy).

And what would war be if you couldn’t take any damage? Well some would say that it makes war better, but this is a game, and damage is needed. The game handles this by

There are other little nuances in the game that really give the old solitaire game a fresh kick. There is even a scoring method to make you want to go back and better things, and a bit of a plot that has you going through wave after wave of the enemy.

And if that’s not enough there are little mini games added into the mix and even the original Pyramid game for those who want more Peace and less War.

Sound and game play make this game fun to play and well worth the price. Though, sadly the graphics are a little

Positives: Nice Re-do Of Classic Pyramid Solitaire, Good Sound & Controls, Nice Mini Game

Negatives: Graphics Are Not Very Crisp

    Hey guys,

Love the game, but it crashes occasionally while loading a level. Also, it seems to permanently hang at level 61. No big deal, just start new game at level 1.

I’ve still recommended to all my friends, and look forward to the update!

      Sorry, just seen this posting.
The new free update fixes the problem and adds a few extra features to the game (different card designs, new mini game and a couple of other features).
Sorry the update took so long to do, but there was a lot of stuff going on in the background, but you should find that it’s now crash free.

      Thanks,
      Mike Moore.

I’m really enjoying the new twists on Solitaire. I loved Word Solitaire. Now we have a war themed solitaire game. Looks like a clever mashup of the two game types.

    Hi everyone!

I´m the game programmer. This review is fantastic, THANKS! Well, I want to say that the game is pretty fun and innovative (I will be a little biased of course) and we are working in a major update that will be out soon. This major update will include (maybe) a new mini game and a new enemy soldier: there will be ninjas attacking to the player if player doesn´t play fast enough. Also, the scoring system has been improved for the next release (now scoring up to millions). So, please feel free to buy the game, it worth the offer price and there will be nice surprises after each update release.

And we are open to suggestions, feel free to do so at ibarbosar (@) hotmail (.) com

    Thanks again!

Solitaire with a war theme? I’ll certainly have to check this one out. The theme looks pretty fun and innovative.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments and I hope you try the game (and like it of course). We are just about ready to send the free version of the game to Apple for testing and we also have our first update to the full game almost ready which includes a new scoring system, so the fast you play the game, the more points you can get (but you have a bigger chance of making a mistake), an improved game saving routine and Ninjas should be making an appearance in the game.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

    Thanks,
    Mike Moore

i too love solitaire, but for me it gets boring after a game or two. This seems like it would really add some replayability and a fun factor to the game. The graphics negative doesnt seem like a big deal as it doesnt seem like graphics should really affect a card game. On a side note, i think you may want to fix the review as in the fourth to last and last paragraphs it stops mid sentence. Otherwise, great review :D

I love the card game Pyramid, I have been waiting for a really good card game app but really havent found one till now. Looks pretty good and sounds fun

You’re absolutely right about cards and the game of war we all played with the highest card turned over wins….oh to be young and innocent again!
On another note, giving solitaire a new game play element with a war theme is interesting as well.
