Sticky Licky
The first thing that sticks out when you open “Sticky Licky” is the way the menu and everything in the game was done, it’s made in a style that gives it a handmade/hand drawn feeling.
In the game you are the frog, “Sticky Licky” and your goal is to survive as long as you can. You do so by eating different insects that have different properties and are worth different amount of points.
The differences in the insects are such as the bee that stings you and you lose health, or like the dragonfly that gives you temporary invulnerability. As you finish levels the time of day changes so the background gets brighter or darker.
When you’re in the dark it can be hard to see some of the bugs, so that’s when the firefly comes in handy. If you eat it, it makes your tongue glow and illuminates the entire screen in a greenish light. Other bugs such as the mosquito attack you if you don’t eat them before they land on you. Another way you can lose health is if you take too long to eat insects.
If you eat several insects in one “lick” you get combos. The game saves your top 10 high scores, and gives you the option to post your high score online. The down side of the online score list is that it’s just that, a list, no ranks. So you don’t know where you are (unless you count your position), also some of the scores on the high score list can be ridiculous.
“Sticky Licky” is controlled by tilting your iDevice left and right, and tapping on the frog once you’re aiming in the right direction. You have to tilt the iDevice opposite to where you want the frog to look, which takes but one or two seconds to get used to.
The 2D Graphics aren’t the standard format, they appear to be hand drawn (as the first screen you see claims they are), which makes it look different, not the average computer made graphics. Once the game starts the music stops (only for the menu), but there are enough sound effects for you to not realize at first that there isn’t any music playing.
The game has several sound effects for different insects, actions and events, so it doesn’t really lack the music desperately, but it COULD use some sort of soundtrack or song.
I personally am not extremely into arcade games, but this one is good. The game gets progressively harder, because as you pass levels more mosquitoes and more bees begin to appear. Overall the game is mostly fun, and entertaining, although it can get repetitive after a while. It’s a good game for a quick play, to continue later when you have another two seconds to play it.

this looks really wierd, but very interesting.
very interesting. High scores would be nice just for the fact that you can see how good you really are, but i can live without them.
looks like a fun, addictive game, but not too much replay value
Music is a big thing…
I’ll have to take a look at some video because if I’m just going by David’s description and the screenshots I’d probably just stick with Ancient Frog.
Since im a huge frog fan, i think im going to try this.
Can’t get enough frog games.
@Charlie – this game does have music and great sound effects like in the night time levels
JayB what level are you talking about? I just played level 4 (night, completely dark) and there’s no music. There’s a sound effect for eating the fireflies and/or the dragonfly, but no music. I agree great sound effects, but if you sit still, no music.
[...] out what appVersity had to say about Sticky [...]
