Uggles Review

Uggles is a fast and furious casual game that reaches back to the 80′s. With simply but addictive gameplay and great character’s and a colorful backdrop Uggles might just be the pick up and play game you have been looking for.

picture-4Uggles is a game that has a lot in like with the old 80′s styles of game like the game and watch series from Nintendo. These games consisted of just moving your main character left and right to catch or bounce another character back into the air. As time progressed the speed and quantity of characters would increase to a frenzied pace until you dropped one in which case the game is over.

The above description pretty much sums up the entire gameplay you will face in a game of Uggles, and it’s one of the games biggest strengths. A lot of people look at simple controls and decide that a game isn’t good based on the “easy” or “casual” aspect of the controls.

I’m here to tell you Uggles may be simple to control, but I’m willing to bet the farm you won’t find it so easy or casual after a few minutes of play. In fact the game can become quite frustrating, and that is where the addiction begins.

Uggles has 3 modes of gameplay to chose from when you start a new game. Easy which consists of 1 Uggle, Medium which consists of 2 Uggles, and Hard which consists of 3 Uggles. You can also adjust the tilt sensitivity of the controls or turn on the button mode gameplay instead of tilt.

However I recommend the tilt functionality of the game, and while it is slightly harder at first it makes the game much more challenging and enjoyable.

The object of the game is to simply keep bouncing the Uggles from one hand to the other without dropping them attempting to get the highest score possible. Should you miss an Uggle the game is over.

Graphically the game looks great with bright and animated characters, and a photo realistic background Uggles is easy on the eyes. However I do have a suggestion to help extend the life of the game some. How about some unlock-able backgrounds? Say for every 10 or 20 bounces you unlock 1 additional background?

Audio wise the game is just average. No background music and one standard sound effect for the “bounce” effect of the Uggles. If i might make another suggestion as well to extend the gameplay and overall fun factor of picture-4the game it would be to mix in some different funny sound effects or giggles at certain bounce levels. This could be used as a quasi unlockable item and would keep me playing trying to hear the new sound effects.

Uggles isn’t a game everyone will love its not very deep, and it won’t keep most of you coming back week after week trying to get a high score. However if you’re a fan of pick up and play type games, or have younger children there is a definite charm to Uggles. I would recommend you try this one it’s not going to break your bank and if the developer listens to my suggestions I think this could be one of the better pick up and play games on the iPhone and iTouch.

The Good

Pleasant eye candy
Addictive and challenging gameplay

The Bad

No online leaderboard
Repetitive Gameplay with no unlockables

    great game, great idea
havent heard about the game so far but…..
graphics are cute and video looks good
    nothing more to say ;-)

…….but one negative aspect: IF the devs will make some updates than its GREAT but if not it will get boring just like pocket god ( if it would not have updates weekly)
i mean its just tilting right tilting left etc , no real story or competition

This sounds like a great game, with the lovable graphics I came to love on Sneezies. Thumbs up to an active dev and a seemingly great product.

I’ve really come to enjoy this style of game. Reminds me of Abby Crabby. Seems so simple, but when it gets going, things get crazy. Lot of fun with these!
