Venger Review
If you are looking for quick fun shoot ‘em up space themed game, Venger just might be your cup of tea.
In Venger, you guide your ship through twenty different levels, each with a boss level, while shooting enemies and avoiding obstacles. Your ship is controlled by tilting in the direction you would like to move; and the tilt controls are well done. To shoot you can tap and hold your finger on either side of the screen, and if you wish you can place fingers on both sides of the screen at once to fire two separate blasts.
You can also fire missile and use speed boosts, however these are limited in quantity. The speed boost will only last so long before the bar runs out, and you will need to wait for it to recharge before using it again. You have a limited number of missiles as well, but you can pick up more throughout the levels.
In Venger, there is more to the game than simply beating the levels (which can become monotonous). After each level, there is a different space station you will need to destroy in order to move on. These space stations are basically boss levels, and add a fair bit of variety to the game. The first levels space station was only a simple planet-looking station; however the second was much more interesting. This space station was shaped like a worm, and moved as such. This was a very interesting twist to the game.
Among the obstacles I have seen (other than flying enemies), there are energy fields (which will hurt you if you run into them), stationary turrets, and scenery you will need to avoid running into.
Venger features beautifully done 3D graphics as well as nicely done sound effects. The scenery, the enemies, and the bullets are all well crafted and nice to look at. There are also no drops in the frame rate from what I have seen so far, which can be a problem for shoot ‘em up games.
Venger also has global high scores, which is a nice addition to a game like Venger. You can see if you are a Venger master, or if you need to play the game a little more to rank up on the leader boards.
Overall, Venger is a very fun game, and comes highly recommended for fans of space shooters. The graphics, game-play, and frame rate are all part of the reason that this game is easily worth its asking cost. If you are interested in the game at all, feel free to give the free lite version a try.
