WiFi Fighters Review

Wi-Fi Fighters is a multiplayer arena styled death match game. You can play this game against your friends, bots, or both but only on local LAN play! picture-1I was excited to play this game after checking out the publisher’s website (http://www.touchfever.com/), the graphics from the screenshots looked really cool and I love flying games!

So after downloading the game from the AppStore and getting started everything looks good! The menu offers you the opportunity to host a LAN game or join a LAN game, also included is a tutorial on how to play and a link to more games from the developer.

Well, after reviewing the “how to play” section which shows you where to touch to accelerate, fire normal weapons, and how to fire special weapons I click on host game. After clicking on host game you are given the option to select how many bots you would like to play against.

So I selected 3 bots and started the game. At this point I was thinking that the “Wi-Fi” in the game title meant online play and I was hoping for others to join. After further research I find that it is local multiplayer which was a big letdown!

I continue playing against the bots and found that this game is incomplete. The game feels like it needs an update right off the bat!

The game itself has you flying around in a futuristic fighter jet that you can control right to left steering by using the tilt of the IPhone. When flying around you CANNOT fly up and down. The only way to fly up is to hit one of the 8 power-ups that provide lift.

So while flying around you will see a barren landscape with only power up’s scattered throughout the field and green highlights of your enemies in the distance. When fling around you can pick up 8 different power-ups which include: Health, Energy, Hyper Jump, Scatter Blaster, Laser Cannon, Super Blaster, Randomizer, and Bomb

The power-up’s are activated by hitting the top left of the screen to fire. The bottom left side of the screen activates the normal gun. On the right side is where you touch to activate the accelerator.

picture-2Wifi Fighters only gives you about two minutes of fun when playing by yourself unfortunately. The fact that you cannot join an online game and battle against humans really makes the game suffer.

I love being able to fly and shoot down enemies, but in this game it is not fun at all! The horizon of the game shows your enemies as a small green blip on the screen, as you approach them they suddenly appear instead of gradually appearing in the distance. After playing for about an hour, I was able to successfully shot down a total of 1! Enemies!! So with that said I would not recommend this game until there are major updates made that include online play!

Overall I would not recommend this game in its current state. The game really needs some polish and online multiplayer in order to make it a game that is worth the cost.

The good:
3d graphics that provide a real flying experience
Great looking menus and tutorial
Has potential to be a fun game if online multiplayer is added

The bad:
No online multiplayer, only local play over Wi-Fi
Single player mode only has one level and you have to add bots to kill
While graphics are good, the terrain has nothing on it, just a field littered with power-ups

buy

I’ve never tried a 3D flying game, but with shooting and everything this seems like it could be fun.

looks like a really fun game, it’s like a flight simulation, shooter and multiplayer game all in one!!!!

looks decent, but without online multiplayer its probably not worth the money

This looks like the kind of game that would only be fun with someone else, which means convincing a friend to buy it too. Online multiplayer would make this WAY more tempting to purchase.
