Dizzy Bee 2 Review
Dizzy Bee was one of my favorite games for the iPhone when the app store launched and for good reasons. From the Nintendo quality graphics to excellent use of the accelerometers and great sound effects, Dizzy Bee kept me occupied for quite some time. Fast forward a few months and Dizzy Bee 2 has arrived and we are here to tell you if this a true sequel or simply new lipstick on an old pig.
For those not familiar with Dizzy Bee the object of the game is to move Dizzy around the obstacles of each level and collect the fruits and flowers on each level while avoiding baddies and traps that can prevent you or your fruit friends from making their escape.
Now some of you who might have played Dizzy Bee are probably asking yourself if Dizzy Bee 2 is worth it. The answer is yes. You see, Igloo games could have just slapped together some new levels and called it a day, but the decided to up the ante for part two.
Dizzy Bee 2’s feature additions includes:
- Over 80 unlockable levels of gameplay to include bonus stages.
- Dozens of new enemies as well as some old friends to contend with still.
- Two modes of gameplay, Easy mode and Normal Mode.
- Better motion control (slightly slower movements) this is a plus.
- Power up moves for Dizzy. No longer are you defenseless against the baddies.
- Time bonus scoring. Beat the levels faster to earn extra points.
To Play Dizzy Bee 2 you simply rotate the iPhone causing momentum to move Dizzy around the board. Your objective is to release your fruit friends from their captured states and return them to the exit.
The game consists of Islands with 5 objectives on each island
Each level is scored on 3 objectives. the first being how many of your friends you managed to save. The second is how many flowers you gathered, and the third is how many you friends you managed to “chain” exit.
Chaining means to have your friends exit in a a non disturbed succession or in other words if one friend exits and a few seconds pass before another one exits you will not receive credit for that part of the chain, and while this will not hamper you from progressing in the game it will hamper you from getting a crown on your completion map.
This is Dizzy Bee’s version of accomplishments. You see there is nothing more motivating or bruising to your ego than having a complete island of crowns ruined by one bronze or silver star.
Thankfully for Part two the controls and the speed of dizzy have been slightly modified. Dizzy now floats a little slower or lets say heavier than the original game. That is a good thing as dizzy feels a bit more controllable now.
Graphically Dizzy Bee 2 brings nothing new to the table, and while that’s not bad as the game does look quite cute and colorful don’t expect any new real improvements graphically.
However, the level design has improved to include tons of new mechanisms and objects to swing, steer and rotate dizzy away from his objectives as well as traps that will literally eat you up and spit you out!
Enemies have been improved and enhanced as well, but this time Dizzy doesn’t have to take it like a Bee. Multiple Powerups such as the cannon have been included now which allow Dizzy to strike back at the baddies.
Igloo games has done a fantastic job of improving on almost ever single aspect from the first game while maintaining it’s charm from level the first level to the end. If your a fan of the first game this is a no brainier, and if your a first time player or you just bought an iDevice there is very few other titles I would recommend to start your collection off with.
Dizzy Bee 2 is a charming, addicting, and well designed puzzle game which fits looks and plays beautiful on the iPhone a must have for any serious gaming or puzzle fan.
Positives:
- Huge number of levels each filled with its own charms and anxieties.
- Excellent controls that will even have grandma playing in no time.
- Smooth and flawless gameplay with no graphics slow down or glitches.
Negatives:
- Graphics while cute add nothing new over predecessor.
- Even on easy upper levels enemies can be a little to fast and tough making it not so easy.

Looks good. Fantastic review!
i really like the sounds, puzzles and dizzy bee 2 makes my brain think more than version 1. i am so excited over this.
Recently I played the DizzyBee Free version and got hooked by it. Was going to wait if Igloo Games were going to offer a christmas sale for them. But,to my surprise, they went the other way for Dizzy Bee 2 and increase the price by $2.
Thanks again for a great review.
Bummer, I came home to buy it and the price goes up. Now the wait begins to see how much in iTunes gift cards I get for Xmas.
Thanks Glenn! I am going to add it to my WANT list for Christmas.
Hey Bessamy thanks for the question. I did find that Dizzy Bee 2 was easier to control, as well as having a difficulty level selection. I think Dizzy Bee 1 while it was good was a learning point for the developer. I would recommend Part 2 whole heartily.
There are still some challenging situations but if it was that easy it wouldn’t be fun!
Is Dizzy Bee 2 that much easier to control than the Dizzy Bee 1 or Free? I didn’t get the first one because I couldn’t control the bee in the free version that well and ended up more frustrated than having fun. If it is, I may take a try at Dizzy Bee 2, because I did love the cute look and the idea behind. Thanks for the review!
