Machine vs. Machine Gun: In 2073, the Real Battle is Between Gamer and Monotony
So let me tell you what you need to know about, Machine vs. Machine Gun. The year is 2073, alien robots have declared war o\n the human race. Ever heard this one before? To prevent humans from developing a stronger defense, the robots started a
ttacking our weapon development centers. There’s only one development center left and you are Sgt. Jackson, the only soldier that survived and it’s your job to defend the surviving research lab.
Play as Sgt. Jackson as he defends 8 areas that are most vital for the survival of this research lab. Can you hold off the invasion before the robots take over? One man survives the terrible onslaught of the robots; can he survive till the end? It’s up to you to find out. Play in 8 different levels
in the game, and with each new level there’s different environments, weapons, and enemies you’ll be fighting.
The first impression I got from this game was that it had that cheap, one dollar game feeling. The graphics are just way too plain in comparison to games that have come out in the App Store as of late. If the visuals aren’t up to par, then the gameplay has to blow gamers away and this game doesn’t deliver that either. It’s just way too linear, just shooting one robot after another and the boss fights aren’t anything special or diverse. Altogether, the concept didn’t seem too bad, albeit a bit unoriginal, but it severely lacks replay value, wow factor, and some sort of additional mode.
Controls:
For Machine vs. Machine Gun, you control a gun turret, complete with a shield generator handy to defend yourself against the invasion of robots. You must maneuver your turret around and aim it precisely at the targets without a crosshair. This is pretty difficult. Allow me to explain.
A lovely option that game developers are making available to us gamers it the ability to fully customize your controls whether it be sensitivity, or calibrating the accelerometer. Machine vs Machine Gun severely needs this option because the gun moves on a swivel and the controls are inverted, meaning up is down and down is up. Why they did this I have no clue, because it will cater to some who are used to it, but others will be screaming foul and will be getting lit up by the enemy robots like Christmas lights.
What We Liked:
+ Decent visuals and environments + Level choice option + Futuristic feel + Wide range of various enemy robots + Boss fights at the end of every level +
What We Disliked:
- Extremely tedious – Levels feel the same after a while – Boss fights are uninspiring – No Pause button – No Resume game feature – Tutorial isn’t very informative – Lack of customizable controls (sensitivity, inverted, etc.) – No achievements or awards – No soundtrack – Lame weapon sound effects
Final Verdict:
Killerstorm Studios brought us to the year 2073, but I have a strong feeling that a lot of people won’t want to take that journey to that year. If in 2073, alien robots are attacking me and all I have left is a gun turret that has inverted controls, lame weapon sound effects, and the robots I’m fighting don’t even look cool, then I’d rather just stick with my iPod touch in the year 2009. Daniel says skip this one-dimensional, lackadasical, extremely monotonous app that even for a buck isn’t offering the gamer nearly enough.
